Bound to cover just a little more ground!

My family and I came upon Waterville Valley in 2002, coming off of a vacation at Story Land with our two young daughters. It was then that my wife Lori and I decided we really wanted to further explore the White Mountains. We visited Waterville Valley on our way back to Massachusetts, looked at some property and decided this was the place for us. We subsequently bought a condo and our personal journey at the end of the road began. We commuted on weekends from 2003 to 2012, skiing, hiking, biking and boating each year, until we made the call to move here, and established residence in the winter of 2013. We’ve been full time residents ever since, both of our daughters, Hannah and Carolyn, were WVES students and BBTS Freestyle skiers and Lori and I have both been active members of the community. I was a founding board member of the Waterville Historical Society, and have been a member of the Waterville Valley Foundation board for five years.

Katie Smith

Vice President

Katie moved to Waterville Valley with her husband and 2 sons in the summer of 2015. Following her husbands career, she has lived in many ski towns and has found the quaintness of the valley has been ideal to raise her children. She works full time with her husband for WV Resort with her children attending the local school since Kindergarten. The freedom and independence the valley offers is like none other in modern times. Her family is highly involved in many community organizations and she joined the WV Foundation 4 years ago. The Smiths hope for nothing else but to introduce the qualities of Waterville Valley to everyone.

This is me in my element. Teaching Skiing!

I came to Waterville Valley to be a ski bum and it was totally by happenstance. I just graduated from University of NH and had not started my career yet and was figuring out how I could ski without having any money. I was having dinner at a the Puritan Restaurant in Manchester NH with my sister Jackie, and one of her high school friends was flirting with Jackie and eventually noticed I was at the table too. He was a ski instructor at Waterville Valley, and advised me to just go up and talk to Joe Jung and he will hire you. I did just that back in 1988 and got the job and have been teaching skiing ever since. I eventually got my career job as a software engineer, which allowed me to buy a condo in 1992, then a house in 2005 where my wife Patty, and children Christina and Peter moved here full time. Both of my children went to the Waterville Valley Elementary School, then onto Plymouth Regional High School and are both in College. I joined the Waterville Foundation in 2009 and have served on several boards in town including the School Board, Conservation Committee, and the Waterville Valley Adaptive Sports. I am also co-editor of the Wigwag, which I think everyone who has ever set foot in Waterville should become a subscriber to know what is happening in and around the Valley.
