Below you is the Mad River. It begins from Greeley Ponds, 3 miles upstream and collects tributaries from the surrounding mountains including Tecumseh Brook (from Mount Tecumseh), Avalanche Brook (from Mount Tripyramid), Cascade Brook (From Snows Mountain), and others.

Just beyond the bridge, the West Branch from Tecumseh Brook, connects with the main river. You can take the trail to the right of the bridge and see the connection and continue across the rock bridge to the Mad River trail, which brings you back to Town Square, where you can again see Snows Brook join into the Mad River.

The Mad River snakes down the valley near route 49, crosses the dam in Campton, and joins into the Pemigewasset River, which eventually joins into the Merrimack River which eventually meets the Atlantic Ocean in Newburyport Massacusetts.

August 28th 2011, Hurricane Irene dumped 7 inches of rain in this area and the Mad River water level increased such that the bridge you are standing was underwater.
