NH 4,000 Footers

New Hampshire is home of 48 4,000 foot high mountains including the highest peak in the north east being Mount Washington. To put this into perspective, states Vermont and Maine have 5 and 14 respectively. Waterville Valley is surrounded by 5 4,000 footers. The Waterville Valley ski area, visible to the left, on Mount Tecumseh is a 4,003 feet peak (although recent measurements reduces it to 3,998 feet).

Also visible from this wonder point, looking over the tee box for the 9th hole, is Mount Osceola.  Although not in Waterville Valley,  it can be seen from most everywhere on the valley floor and has 2 peaks, the main peak on the left is 4,314 feet and the east peak on the right is 4,157 feet, with two slides forming a “V” on the main peak. Mount Tripyramid is also viewable, however hidden by Snows Mountain on the right and has 3 peaks, but only 2 count as over 4,000 feet being North and Middle. The South peak does not count as the traverse from Middle to South is a ridge that doesn’t dip low enough (200 feet) to count at an independent 4,000 foot peak.

Waterville Valley’s historic golf course opened in 1898, making it one of the oldest in New Hampshire. A major renovation in 2005 retained the character and tradition of the 113-year-old course, and created six spectacular new and redesigned holes.  The course provides classic New England golf in a picturesque setting, with rolling hills and the backdrop of majestic 4,000 foot mountains.
