Corcoran Pond
Tom Corcoran arrived in Waterville Valley (then called just Waterville) in 1965. He was looking for a place to develop a ski area. Waterville was an established town at the time as a summer recreational area as well as a winter race hill where racers would hike up the Tecumseh trail to race. When Tom and his wife Birdie arrived there were only 2 full time residents in the town, Ray Brox and Dick Jackson. Tom, Birdie, 3 children with a fourth on the way was a populations boom. Today there are over 650 full time residents..
At the time there was an inn at the north end of town which allowed people to stay in town on vacations. In 1966 the Waterville Ski are opened with 4 lifts and was a huge success. Tom’s vision was to create a 4-season resort similar to resorts he skied at in Europe when he was a competitive ski racer. To do this, he knew he needed a beach and water, so he dug out the pond as you see before you and create a dam on Snows Brook to create this water attraction. In the summer the beach is buzzing with activity and the Town Square is busy with shops restaurants and bands playing music.
